NATO

NATO (Sojusz Północnoatlantycki) – układ wojskowy zawarty w 1949 roku, na mocy Traktatu północnoatlantyckiego. Za główny cel NATO postawiono obronę militarną przed atakiem ze strony ZSRR i jego państw satelickich, od 1955 roku zrzeszonych w Układzie Warszawskim. Obecnie NATO pełni funkcję stabilizacyjną, podejmując działania mające zapobiegać rozprzestrzenianiu się konfliktów regionalnych. Jest także gwarantem bezpieczeństwa zewnętrznego państw członkowskich.
